Job Summary

The Patient Access position is responsible for coordinating the daily administration of doctors, staff, visitors, and patients. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions.

This position is typically scheduled 7a-7p (Mon & Wed), 7a-4p (Tues & Fri) and has most Thursdays off.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and respond to phone calls in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Participate in registering patients by gathering necessary information from patient to build a new/updated patient account in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Collect self-pay payments and insurance copays.
  • Creating and scheduling appointments.
  • Verifying active patient Insurances.
  • Updating and maintaining Patient Access work queues as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to help provide high quality compassionate healthcare.  
  • May assume other responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor’s instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in regard to job duties and assignments.

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • High school graduate preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • One-year medical front desk experience preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge in insurances preferred.
  • Computer proficiency and prior experience with EPIC highly preferred

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
