Summer Internship Activity Assistant: 64-80 hrs/pay period (Days)

Job Summary

JMHS has a 12-week internship opportunity for an Activity Assistant working under the direction of the Activities Manager. This is an opportunity that will provide practical application while developing your skills in a professional medical setting. This will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the corporate healthcare industry and business continuity.

This is a non-exempt Internship for 12 weeks, between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This position will pay $15/hour.

The intern will be responsible for assisting with following duties but not limited to:

  • Assist with daily group activity program and/or one-to-one activity programs.
  • Provide opportunities for spontaneous activities and the space, materials, etc. as needed.
  • Prepare and distribute daily newsletters to residents.
  • Post events/happenings on the TV monitors and update as needed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date daily attendance chart of each resident.
  • Document one-to-one visits/interactions in the EMR.
  • Ensure the daily mail is received by all residents.
  • Plan and participate in resident outings.
  • Help plan monthly program schedule and prepare monthly calendar.
  • Water indoor/outdoor plants weekly or as needed.
  • Answer call lights.  
  • Prepare food/snacks for Happy Hour and special events.
  • Provide opportunities for residents to assist with helping type activities such as towel folding, baking, preparing vegetables, etc.
  • Assist to plan and organize special events.
  • Other duties as assigned. This may include driving the golf cart, driving resident bus, grilling outside, working in all season environments, filling bird and squirrel feeders and cleaning them, order and pick up bird seed as needed, maintaining flower beds/planters and many other varied activities.

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • Students must have completed either their junior or senior year of high school and intend to complete graduation requirements. Or they must be a post-secondary student enrolled in a Minnesota educational institution or be a resident of Minnesota enrolled in an out-of-state program. Post-secondary students must be enrolled in a two- or four-year health care degree program, with the intention of completing the program.
