Education & Development Coordinator (RN): 80 hrs/per pay period

POSITION SUMMARY

The Education and Development Coordinator at JMHS is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing all in-service educational programs throughout the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations and as may be directed by the administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality care can be maintained at all times. The Education and Development Coordinator will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and will demonstrate behaviors that align with Johnson Memorial Health Services’ Core Values: Together, Kindness, and Trust.

 Essential Duties

The Education and Development Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Establishes goals and objectives for staff development programs, including orientation and continuing education.
  • Coordinates facility-wide training programs; plans, budgets, advertises, evaluates, and documents overall effectiveness.
  • Maintains records of training activities and employee progress and monitors effectiveness of programs. Coordinates with regulatory agencies as appropriate.
  • Participate in and/or lead specific projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Plans and implements research in educational programs using adult learning principles. Provides direction, support, and evaluation of instructors. May develop and present training programs.
  • Serves as the Health Stream Administrator. Makes all mandatory computer-based learning modules available on an annual basis. Tracks and monitors completion to ensure compliance standards are met. Works with the department managers and HR staff on all non-compliant employees.
  • Determines appropriate delivery approaches and assists/recommends to administration/management, i.e., external presenters, internal resources, train the trainer, self-conducted or computer-based approach.
  • Maintain appropriate records of education, training, skills, experience, and strictest confidentiality.
  • Establish relationships with local schools/ colleges to coordinate clinical and shadow experiences and coordinate requests for other clinical opportunities from outside agencies.
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of Health Education trends in Health Industry.
  • Coordinates or provides training to personnel requiring BLS, ACLS, & PALS certification.
  • Serves as the primary RN contact for all new employee health screening evaluations. Researches and analyzes state and regulatory agency healthcare worker pre-placement and vaccination requirements. Follows up with new employees as needed to ensure compliance with all immunization requirements.
  • Provide and facilitate new employee orientation and training.
  • Assist the Human Resources staff with general nursing questions as they relate to the employee’s ability to return to work from an illness or injury. Acts as liaison for employees requiring services under workers' compensation.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current RN license
  • 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare setting (required). Acute care experience (preferred)
  • Instructor training for ACLS, BLS, and PALS to be completed within one year of the date of hire
  • Knowledge and experience using EPIC EHR (Preferred)
  • Proficient knowledge and experience using computer applications (Windows, MS Office, etc.)
  • Knowledge of external regulations that affect the area of responsibility

Required Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

Travel

  • Minimal travel may be required up to 5%

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Working Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and standing, bending, and moving
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
  • May be exposed to patients with infectious diseases
