Ultrasound Technologist: 32-64 hours/pay period (Day)
Job Summary
The Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasound studies to provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
This position is generally scheduled Monday-Thursday 8:00a-4:30p & Fri 8:00a-noon (no call, no weekends, no holidays).
Responsibilities

- Assist in coordination of the day-to-day activities of the Radiology Service as an Ultrasound Technologist.
- Perform all ultrasound exams and procedures according to established protocols to provide quality images and patient care in a timely manner.
- Obtain patient history, answer questions, and provide the patient with information about the exam and/or procedure so they are comfortable and thoroughly understand it.
- Work with the radiologists, surgeons, providers, referring clinics and/or patients to ensure the appropriate exams, films and medical records are correct and prepared for the exam.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork is accurate and complete for the radiologist, referring clinic and the patient’s medical records.
- Troubleshoots defective equipment and institutes repairs, when necessary.
- Assist in maintaining Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs to meet the requirements of the various regulatory agencies.
- Participates in activities directed toward evaluating and improving service area functions.
- Maintains a good record of attendance and punctuality.
- Assumes responsibility for enhancing personal and professional development.
- Attends 80% of departmental, quarterly, & other required meetings.
- Assess and interpret data relating to the patient’s status in order to identify the patient’s age specific needs.

- Communication: Frequent contact with patients, public and some contact with other JMHS employees. High degree of poise, tact and resourcefulness required in obtaining, presenting and interpreting procedures and information.
- Confidentiality: Works with highly confidential patient information. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality is essential.
- Responsibility: Work involves the use or handling of complicated and expensive equipment and supplies. Must be knowledgeable of and be able to work with the billing system used in the department. Compliance with cost of containment policies is essential.
- Safety: Responsible for performance of own tasks in such a manner that the safety of employees and patients is maintained and protected. Safety precautions will be followed to protect the safety of the patient and staff. Such precautions as the OSHA Blood borne Pathogen Standard, OSHA TB Policies and other JMHS infection control and safety policies will be strictly adhered to.
Education/Experience/Licensure
- Graduate from an accredited Sonography program.
- RDMS (AB, OB/GYN, BR, PS) (RVT) required.
- Preferred RDCS (Adult Echocardiography) or willing to train.
- 6-12 months ultrasound experience preferred.
- CPR certification required.
- Knowledge of basic sonography principles, procedures, methods and techniques required.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology required.
- Excellent patient care, problem solving, organizational, communication and technical skills required.
- Ability to work independently, in a team, and with all levels of the organization required.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served on his or her unit.
- Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
Working Environment/Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods standing and walking and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds at times.
